Washington:
US President Donald Trump has announced that Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to visit the White House toward the end of this year, signaling renewed diplomatic engagement between the world’s two largest economies after months of trade tensions.

Trump made the remarks during an interview with NBC News, recorded on Wednesday, the same day he held a detailed conversation with Xi. According to Trump, the discussion covered major global and bilateral issues including trade relations, Taiwan, Russia’s war in Ukraine, and developments related to Iran.

The US president also revealed plans to visit China in April, ahead of Xi’s anticipated trip to Washington later in the year. Calling US–China relations significant for global stability, Trump said both leaders understand the importance of maintaining cooperation.

“These are the two most powerful countries in the world, and we have a very good relationship,” Trump stated.

Trade Tensions and Economic Interdependence

Since returning to office, Trump has introduced new tariffs on sectors such as steel, automobiles, and other industries as part of his broader trade strategy. While Washington and Beijing have clashed over trade policies, both sides reached a temporary truce following heightened tensions earlier this year.

Despite US efforts to reduce reliance on Chinese manufacturing, economic ties between the two countries remain deeply interconnected, underscoring the importance of ongoing dialogue.

Taiwan and Global Security Issues

During the conversation, Xi Jinping urged caution regarding US arms sales to Taiwan, which China considers part of its territory. He also expressed optimism that disputes between Beijing and Washington could be resolved through gradual trust-building and diplomacy.

Trump described the discussion as “excellent,” emphasizing the need to preserve stable relations.

Meanwhile, China has declined to join proposed US-led nuclear arms limitation talks involving Russia, saying the timing is not right.

Analysts see the planned exchanges as a potential step toward stabilizing one of the world’s most consequential geopolitical relationships.
