Pakistan Foreign Office condemns Rajnath Singh’s remarks on Sindh

Pakistan on Sunday strongly rejected Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s recent comments suggesting that Sindh could one day “return to India,” calling the statement delusional, revisionist, and a violation of international norms.

Singh was quoted by Indian media as saying that while Sindh was no longer part of India, “civilisationally it will always remain so,” adding that borders can change in the future. He made the remarks during an event in New Delhi, reportedly addressing members of the Sindhi community.

Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO) issued a sharp response, stating that such statements reflect an expansionist Hindutva mindset that challenges recognised borders, territorial sovereignty, and international law. The FO urged Indian leaders to avoid provocative rhetoric that risks destabilising an already fragile region.

Islamabad also pressed New Delhi to focus instead on protecting vulnerable minority populations within India and holding accountable those responsible for communal violence. The FO further pointed out that several communities in India’s northeast continue to face marginalisation and state-enabled discrimination.

Reiterating its long-standing position, Pakistan called on India to take meaningful steps toward resolving the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in line with UN Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri population.

Relations between the two nuclear-armed neighbours have sharply deteriorated following a four-day military confrontation earlier this year, which involved the use of fighter aircraft, missiles, artillery, and drones. Both sides traded claims of downing each other’s aircraft, while dozens of casualties were reported before a ceasefire was announced.

Amid escalating statements from political and military leadership on both sides, Pakistan’s military warned in October that any renewed conflict could lead to “cataclysmic devastation,” adding that Islamabad would respond firmly and without restraint if hostilities resumed.

Despite ongoing diplomatic tension, Pakistan reiterated its commitment to resolving disputes peacefully and in accordance with international law, while vowing to safeguard its sovereignty and security.
