Connecting Delhi, Amritsar & Kabul to boost trade & logistics.

21 November 2025 – New Delhi:
India and Afghanistan are set to commence air cargo services between the two nations, according to an Indian foreign ministry official, as both countries work to strengthen ties amid strained relations with Pakistan.

The announcement followed a visit to New Delhi by Afghanistan’s Taliban Trade Minister Nooruddin Azizi, who emphasized the need to expand trade and open cargo hubs. Kabul is seeking access to essential goods such as grains, medicines, and industrial products, after Pakistan closed its border following military clashes.

Indian officials confirmed that freight corridors linking Delhi and Amritsar with Kabul have been activated, and cargo flights are expected to operate “very soon,” once Afghan authorities complete the necessary formalities, said Anand Prakash, Joint Secretary at the Indian Ministry of External Affairs.

Due to ongoing tensions, Indian airlines currently do not fly to Afghanistan, as Pakistan has closed its airspace to them. However, Afghan carriers maintain regular passenger services to Delhi.

Historically, India and Afghanistan have shared friendly relations, though India does not officially recognize the Taliban government. Nevertheless, both countries have moved quickly to recalibrate ties amid deteriorating relations with Pakistan and the strategic interest of countering China’s growing influence in Afghanistan.

Recent diplomatic visits, including that of Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, have further strengthened bilateral engagement. India has also reopened its embassy in Kabul, which had been closed since 2021.

The new air cargo services are expected to significantly enhance trade, improve logistics, and strengthen economic collaboration between India and Afghanistan.
