“Saudi Arabia condemns RSF attacks on civilians and humanitarian aid in Sudan”

Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry has issued a strong condemnation of recent “criminal attacks” carried out by Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which have targeted civilians and humanitarian aid operations, officials said on Saturday.

In an official statement, the ministry expressed deep concern over assaults on the al‑Kuweik Military Hospital, a World Food Programme‑affiliated aid convoy, and a vehicle transporting displaced civilians. The ministry noted that these attacks have resulted in the deaths of dozens of civilians and caused significant damage to essential aid infrastructure in both North and South Kordofan states.

“The Kingdom affirms that these acts are unjustifiable under any circumstances and constitute flagrant violations of all humanitarian norms and relevant international agreements,” the statement said.

Saudi Arabia called on the RSF to halt these violations and ensure the safe and unhindered delivery of humanitarian assistance to those in need, particularly vulnerable communities impacted by the ongoing conflict.

The foreign ministry reiterated its firm support for Sudan’s unity, security, and stability, emphasising the importance of preserving legitimate institutions. The statement also criticised foreign interference, including the continued supply of illicit weapons, mercenaries, and foreign fighters, which Saudi officials said have prolonged the conflict and exacerbated the suffering of the Sudanese population.

Since April 2023, fighting between the Sudanese army and the RSF has triggered one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises, resulting in tens of thousands of deaths and the displacement of millions.
