Jordan’s King Abdullah II was warmly received by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari on his arrival in Pakistan on Saturday for a two-day state visit.
King Abdullah II of Jordan arrived in Pakistan on Saturday for a two-day state visit, receiving a warm welcome from senior Pakistani officials at Nur Khan Airbase. The reception was attended by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and First Lady Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, marking the importance of the royal visit.
President Asif Ali Zardari highlighted that the visit would bring a new strategic dimension to Pakistan–Jordan relations, emphasizing the historical brotherhood, mutual trust, and shared values between the two nations. According to a statement by PTV News, the visit reflects the longstanding fraternal ties and aims to further enhance political, economic, and cultural cooperation.
During his visit, King Abdullah II is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, followed by discussions at the delegation level. The President’s Secretariat noted that a formation of Pakistan Air Force JF-17 Thunder jets provided a protective escort as the royal aircraft entered Pakistani airspace, showcasing the country’s respect and security protocol for visiting dignitaries.
The king later reached the Prime Minister’s House, where he was greeted with a ceremonial guard of honour. This visit follows his last trip to Pakistan at the invitation of former President Mamnoon Hussain, during which memoranda of understanding were signed, focusing on cooperation in civil protection, defence, and housing sectors.
Last month, King Abdullah II also praised Pakistan’s military contributions to regional peace and security in a meeting with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir, who had previously visited Jordan. The meeting included Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II, emphasizing the close diplomatic and military ties between the two brotherly nations.
This state visit is seen as a step forward in strengthening strategic, economic, and cultural collaboration, further consolidating the bond between Pakistan and Jordan. It is expected to open new avenues for bilateral trade, defence cooperation, and people-to-people exchanges, highlighting the importance of sustained diplomatic engagement in the region.
